Easter Seals Project ACTION Presents:

Forming Partnerships with Transit

There are no courses scheduled at this time. Please check back periodically for updated information.

About the Course

This free, six-week virtual training course is designed for transit advocates interested in increasing their role in the design and implementation of transportation services in the community. Over the years, an increasing emphasis has been placed on public involvement in transit planning. Combined with the requirement for coordination among programs receiving specific federal funds for transportation, the opportunity for transit advocates to gain a seat at the table for planning and implementation has grown.

This course is designed for transit advocates who want to come to the table better informed and better prepared to offer input that will be heard, understood and incorporated into the over-all plan. Individuals who may find this course useful are:

  • Disability advocates with a focus to improve transportation options
  • Human service providers involved in local transportation coordination efforts
  • Private transportation providers seeking to get involved in coordination efforts
  • Community advocates with a focus on improving transportation options

Note: Public transportation providers would likely find the information presented in this course to already be a part of their knowledge base.

This is a virtual course with an opportunity to share experiences, ideas and knowledge with colleagues. The course contains material to read, exercises designed to apply information learned, and online interaction via a discussion forum. The format is flexible enough to allow busy professionals to log in and work at any hour of the day or night. Participants should expect to commit to a minimum of 15 concentrated hours on the course activities over the six week span of the course.

How the course is structured

The course includes four learning modules:

  1. Transportation Planning
  2. Transportation Funding
  3. Becoming a Transit Supporter
  4. Strategies for Taking an Effective Role to Improve Transportation Options

Participants are expected to study the course materials, complete the accompanying exercises and participate in the discussion forum. The course instructor will be available to monitor the completion of course work, answer questions and join in the forum discussion. Upon the completion of all course work, participants will receive a certificate from Easter Seals Project ACTION.
