The New Freedom Program: An Introduction

The New Freedom Program was created under the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU), enacted on August 10, 2005. The New Freedom Program supports new public transportation services and public transportation alternatives beyond those required by the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 that assist individuals with disabilities with their transportation needs, including transportation to and from jobs and employment support services. This fact sheet provides a brief overview of the program.
